TTMF Staff Cooler Fete 2024
Watch meh allyuh...I real vex with my friend for inviting me to this fete inno. I mean how we go be friends for so long and she only now invite me to this gem of a party. My fete lineup go never be the same.
The party was on the rooftop of their headquarters on Dundonald Street in tong and from the time I arrived I felt like this fete was different. First off, when I got to the entrance they were offering people a welcome shot of something that looked suspiciously like that vile red substance we hate but it was actually Angostura rum punch.
When I got into the actual party I realized my friend lied to me. How you go invite me to a $275 cooler fete but neglect to tell me it was food inclusive. Hear nah, they provided pre-packaged food boxes with both meat and vegetarian options. Obviously I avoided the "meaty box" (first time in meh life...wink wink) but the vegetarian box had a cheese paste sandwich, saheena, a medium sized mini roti and a mint.
The rooftop had two sections. The back section with "cold breeze" where the food and VIP bar was and the section in front the stage which was "Jah breeze" (open air), packed and steamy. The fete was intimate (code for small) but vibesy from the get go.
After the DJ prime we up with level tunes and less than gentle encouragement to attack we coolers, it was time for performances. My girl Nadia Batson was first to grace the stage. Slim Fast Nadia and KFC Nadia have the same level of energy and stage presence.
Nadia tell the DJ to cool it with the smoke machine because she go fall off the stage like J Ang...nah nah I added that last part about Trini Cyat Woman. I must say, Nadia showed how an artiste could talk and hype up the crowd without it becoming an entry that should be in their diary....some people should check Nadie "receipts" for tips.
The only part of Nadia performance that raised my eyebrows was when she asked why men not singing her Market song when it have "baigan" and "cucumber" in the market. She posited that the men who not singing probably working with "baby carrots". Oh Nadia....
Nadia brought on Adam O (of "She ready ready ready ready ready now" with Salty fame) to the stage. Red man had the ladies going wild and rendering their garments. I however was wondering how a man go leave home to sing soca in a tank top without shaving under his arms.....man look like he had Olatunji in a headlock.
Speaking of....up next was the aforementioned TCB curl activator rastaman. Olatunji run on the stage and shell down the party....which according to his big tune, he invented. I always like Tunji performances because his enthusiasm is infectious. Ola had people waving and jumping and following most of his instructions.
Artistes, listen...just because we hands not up in the air all the time doh mean we doh like your tune or we doh like to follow instructions or we have no vibes. Some of us old, out of shape and we arms does get tired fast.
There were crews with matching jerseys and big flag like it was Army Fete...no netted tights and frilly panties though but that's probably not what you want from your mortgage officers.
Voice came on and did what Voice does best. I'm glad he fixed the problem he had in the past where sometimes he would sound like he's shouting. Last night he was in total control and kept the vibes jamming.
Mical "road march" Teja....my lord...yuh tune gone clear bredren...it gone ah lead. Mical had me really feeling to run down Dundonald Street to Independence Square inno. I probably would have made it only as far as Copa Caba.....never mind.
By this point the line to the two doubles men was like when a CAL flight come in and it only have two working immigration officers. I even asked a couple people what time their Visa appointment was.
TTMFers allyuh win!! For $275 allyuh provided big fete entertainment in a house party kinda vibe. I feel like I owe allyuh money....like I should switch my mortgage or at least book my spot for next year.
