STRUT Summer 2024

This weekend I started off my birthday month celebrations by attending STRUT Summer boat ride on the Harbour Master. I almost didn't go because of the biblical level deluge that descended on the western peninsula just after lunch. Then I remembered I "had was to" go because is allyuh Loggers money I spend (thanks for the support…like a good drawers).

Boarding was scheduled for 3pm with sailing at 4pm. Given the weather and the fact that never in the history of boat rides has a boat ride ever started on time, I was impressed that we left promptly at 4:30pm.

Any experienced feter would tell you the view from the car park is one of the highlights of any boat ride. This was definitely a pretty people party (excluding me of course). Birds came out in their swimsuits covered by wraps and sun dresses and the blokes were out in pants that were way too short. How you go leave your house in a batty-rider, grey sweatpants material, short pants brethren?

As you got on the boat there were welcome drinks and fancy plastic STRUT cups. The party was limited to mainly the middle deck where there was alcohol Popsicles, Punchy Punch shot and Prosecco (not sure if this was free). I knew this party would be a winner when I saw there was no drain water, brackish Campari being handed out.

There was free food at the back of the boat as well. Hear nah, as a Rasta I find the KFC was smelling nice inno...and from the way I see a man lick he hand all the way down to he elbows the doubles look like it was lashing too.

The DJs were on point. Maybe it was because it was outside the Carnival season or the Punchy Punch shots were kicking in but I found Hans did a decent job. Plenty variety and not a lot of "yakity-yakking" on the mic.

I had a brief interaction with a bloke who claimed to be soca artiste Zan who was in the middle of doing a reel in the restroom. I was confused as to why one would choose to speak to their followers about the importance of "living well" and "peace of mind" from the bowels of a ship but I fully endorsed his message.

I'm not sure if it was because of the weather or because we started late but instead of the usual route down to Turtle Bay,  the boat went down Chagville side by Pier One where man does bathe in their jockey shorts and gyal does bathe in a big t-shirt over their bikini. We made quick u-turn and headed back toward the Harbour Master's Cocorite home. The funny thing about boat rides is they always start late and always finish on time. Weird.

After the boat ride we ended up swinging through Cookin Vibez for dinner and more gin. Which reminds me I need to hit up that Duolingo stalker program to brush up on my Spanish. I ultimately woke up on the couch at 4:16am to the sound of loud snoring coming from the dynamic duo of my pitbull/bull terrier "Marmalade" and her Rottweiler bestie "Remi".

Celebrations continue this weekend at Dining with the Saints, followed by a cornucopia of drinks the weekend after that and culminating in a very special outing at month end. Stay tuned.
